Launching the liberal network
LI has a parliamentarian’s e-Network on encompassing the
tabling of Parliamentarians Questions on human rights. In
the hopes that if a specific issue is raised in various
parliaments around the world, this concerted effort will
strengthen its case. In recognising the somewhat loosely
structured e-Network, LI would like to organise a setting at
which these various human rights MPs could meet and discuss
ways of strengthening this network. Potentially this could
be a very effective Liberal Human Rights mechanism in which
we can and should make a difference.
DPP and LI have proposed the date for organising this event
in Taiwan in 26-29 September, 2007 at which we can invite
liberal human rights parliamentarians. In addition, CALD is
looking into the possibility to hold its executive meeting
in conjunction with the human rights meeting and has
proposed the agenda of human trafficking. The participation
of CALD at the human rights conference will be decided in
June when it holds its bureau meeting.
We very much see the conference as an instrument to
strengthen this parliamentarians’ network. In particular, UK
Liberal Democrats is willing to sponsor two speakers from
Africa liberal network. LI will suggest a list of speakers
that cover all member parties from five continents. To this
end, there will be a diverse and intrusive aspect on
cooperating human rights campaigns among liberals.
