Name of Intern:
Kemchitra Chatraporn
-
Country: Thailand (Democrat Party)
- Internship
period: 23 May 2005 – 18 June 2005
Overview
Working in the parliament could bring an intern a new experience on European
liberals and democrats systema of working. Compared to Thailand, this
tremendous knowledge could develop Thai system by applying the process in
order to strengthen the civil society, transparency, and openness of the
decision-making towards promoting democratization in the country. In the
European Parliament, all the system works very well in the way which
liberality and democracy union should operate. The strong democratic system
functions in the Parliament for the real beneficial with compromised
interests for Member States. The political group such as Group of the
Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe plays a major role in
protecting the interests of European people in any of their interested
subjects via the parliament system.
During the internship programme, I was assigned to work with the press
group. The press group principally maintains the press conferences, launching press releases
and also press briefing from ALDE group. Therefore, the
group’s assignments particularly press out our group politic messages and
the report from ALDE rapporters on specific issue such as the rapporter’s
report on the EU and Russia relations on Human Rights and Money laundering.
In addition, our leader has to work closely with the ALDE leader Mr. Graham
Watson in order to send out group message on any important issues to
pressure the parliament to promote economic, social and territorial cohesion
and solidarity among Member States.
Therefore, the duty of press in the parliament is specific not only on the
transparency, revealing parliament actions and documents but also delivers
the massage from the political groups to the parliament institution and
public.
Not
only the press aspect that I have learnt from this programme. I have been
also authorized to join any conference regarding my interests, such as the
committee meeting on foreign affair, public hearing on Landmine Free etc.
Due to the flexible programme, intern could be able to organise him/herself
to attend diversity parliament activities for instance, open study, public
hearing, delegation meetings and plenary sessions.
To
sum up, working with ALDE contributes to an understanding of the function of
liberty and democracy in international level. Intern will gain knowledge on
European Parliament function which could wider his or her idea not only on
the political interaction between European Member States itself but also the
relationship with other countries in the different regions for example,
Third countries. The enhancement of European international relation taking
into account a global issue will brighten up inters conceptual of mind on
European international politic and the power of the European Union in the
world.
