Suggestions for Future Interns
This internship programme is very educational and suitable for young
liberals, especially those who are involved directly or indirectly in the
political movement in their respective countries. This programme provides an
excellent platform for the interns to explore the political situation in
Europe, as well as to learn the history and functioning of the European
Parliament in practice.
Some of my suggestions for the future internship programme:
·
I would
like to suggest that this internship period be at least 2 months. Interns
need more time to study in-depth on certain topic chosen. One month is
merely enough for a basic understanding of the European Parliament, and just
allows the stagiaire to start adapting to a new living environment.
·
Interns
should be given a topic for report writing upon their arrival in the
European Parliament. There should also be either the group administrator or
a mentor to guide the interns around the European Parliament on their first
day of arrival.
·
Confirmation of application for future intern should be announced at least
one month earlier prior to the actual internship period.
Here are some of my suggestions for the benefits of the future interns:
·
Interns
should equip themselves with the basic background of the European Parliament
by visiting its official website:
http://www.europarl.ep.ec . Interns are advised to also keep an eye on
the current issues happening in Europe –
http://europa.eu.int/news/index_en.htm
·
Interns
may contact the previous interns of the same programme, if he/she needs
further advice on the logistic arrangement, experience sharing, etc. CALD
may set up an ALUMNI corner in the website, a gathering platform for all the
past and future interns to exchange their experiences and views in this
internship programme.
·
It is
advisable to bring along a French/Dutch dictionary or language guidebook
during the internship period. In Brussels, French is widely used in the
community.
