Suggestions for Future Interns

Four (4) weeks is too short to fully understand the European Parliament’s work and system but it can be very productive depending on the intern’s objectives. The internship is a very good opportunity to learn new things and I strongly suggest that the intern take advantage of it.  The following may help:

Before the internship

  • Know your interest and pre choose the committee where you want to be assigned. Start following the committee’s activities even before the internship so you will not have hard time in understanding the issues. Notify the CALD or  ALDE officer of your intent and interest.

  • Visit the websites of the Parliament, Commissions and ALDE. You may subscribe to periodic newsletters to update yourself with information critical for a successful internship.

During the internship

  • Check the interns’ shared email regularly. This is where announcements are sent.

  • Never hesitate to seek help from other interns and the ALDE staff

  • During your free time, visit exhibits, attend forums and activities not related to the committee work. This will maximize your stay with your host organization. Schedules are found on the activity screen, email and posters.

  • Mingle with other interns. My batch mates and I were able to learn more about each other by eating lunch together. Do not be afraid to build a foundation for a strong friendship.

  •  Seize the opportunity but never forget to enjoy.
