She has an extensive work history which include stints as Editor of Eurotrade Magazine; Singapore Program Coordinator of the Jordan Institute of International Awareness at the Texas A&M University, USA; Marketing Communications Consultant at the Electronic Data Systems, U.S.A; Account Supervisor at Pinnacle Worldwide Public Relations, Inc., USA; and was a Resident Fellow at the Bush Presidential Library Complex, International Center, U.S.A.  Ms. Hsu finished her studies at the Texas A&M University, U.S.A. with a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies and Public Relations.

Dr. Sirinaovakul is a technology management expert and a member of the Executive Committee for Technology of the Democrat Party. Previously he served the government as Member of Parliament and Chairman of Information Technology Issues of the National Budget Committee.  He is currently Vice President for Technology of Rangsit University. He was previously engaged in the technology management sector as: Vice - President (Technology Development) at Dhurakijpundit University; Senior Dean of Graduate School of Technology, Assumption University; Assistant Professor at University of Missouri - Rolla in Faculty of Technology; Managing Director, Power Management Institute International - Chulalongkorn University & Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand; and President of the Institute of Industrial Engineers. Dr. Sirinaovakul received his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Wichita State University, Kansas, USA; M.S. (Engineering Management) from the University of Missouri - Rolla, USA; M.E. (Electrical Engineering) from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand and his B.E. (Electrical Engineering) from the King Mongkut Institute of Technology.

Mr. Santos is the Media Relations Consultant of the Liberal Party of the Philippines and a Contributing Writer for Liberal Philippines, a quarterly magazine of the Liberal organizations in the Philippines.  In the government he is the Director of the Print Media Services of the Senate of the Philippines. He has a vast working experience as a journalist prior to his entry to government service in 2004. He has served in various capacities as editor, researcher, reporter and correspondent for the major dailies such as, The Philippine Star (a national daily), the Philippine Daily Inquirer (a national daily), Arab News, Saudi Gazette, Philippine Daily Globe, Manila Chronicle and the Manila Standard. He also served as Executive Director of a media NGO, the Policy Review and Editorial Services (PRESS). He graduated from Ateneo de Zamboanga with a Bachelor degree in Mass Communications. He participated in the 2nd CALD Communications Workshop in Phnom Penh last year, 2004.

Mr. George Kamal Wijetunga Nissanka

Mr. Nissanka is the Secretary General of the Liberal Party of Sri Lanka. He was recently tasked as administrator of their website. In the government he served as Deputy Mayor of the Rathnapura Municipal Council. He has been a member of the Liberal Party since 1987 where he served on various capacities from National Committee Member and Deputy Secretary General.  He graduated from the University of Peradeniya with a degree in Political Science. He participated in the 2nd CALD Communications Workshop in Phnom Penh last year, 2004.

Mr. Soe Aung is a Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Council of the Union of Burma (NCUB). Concurrent to his NCUB post, he is the Director of the External Affairs Department of the Network for Democracy and Development and Coordinator of the Free Political Prisoners Campaign Committee. He received his Bachelor of Science in Physic from Rangoon University in 1985. He also attended the International Human Rights Training Programme of the Canadian Human Rights Foundation in Montreal Canada.

Ms. Wennie Wong Siew Ying is the Communications Executive Secretary for Organization and Publicity of Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia. She acts as intermediary and coordinator between the party and the media. She handles the priority information and compilation of the PGRM website. A seasoned journalist she was previously employed under the Metro Desk of Nanyang Siang Pao, a news daily in, Malaysia and the BERNAMA or the Malaysia News Agency. She received her Advanced Diploma in Mas Communications from the Tunku Adbul Rahman College in Kuala Lumpur (2000) and BA (Hons) in Media Communications (Journalism) from the Sheffield Hallam University in the UK (2002). In 2004 she also attended the International Academy for Leadership seminar on Freedom of the Press and Freedom of Information in Gummersbach, Germany.
  
Mr. Lai Soon Ket

Mr. Lai Soon Ket is the Head of Research of SEDAR Institute, the think-thank organization of Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (Malaysian People’s Movement). His function in the SEDAR website includes editing and compilation.  He graduated from the University Science of Malaysia with a Social Science degree.

Ms. Yeam is the Executive Secretary of the International Relations and Ethnic Relations Bureau of PGRM. She was previously employed by SEDAR Institute, the think-thank of PGRM as Executive Officer. She received her Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Mass Communications (public relations) minor in Political Science from the University of Malaysia. She recently concluded a three week ALDE (Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe) internship at the European Parliament in Brussels (Belgium) and Strasbourg (France) as a PGRM-CALD Intern.

Mr. Hek is a Staff Member and Website Supervisor of the Cabinet of the Sam Rainsy Party. Concurrently he serves as the Assistant of Senator Ung Bun-ang, Spokesperson of the SRP. He was previously employed as Japanese language teacher at the New York City Institute in Phnom Pehn.  He received his Bachelor degree in Chemistry from the Royal University of Phnom Penh and is currently finishing an Advance degree course at the Australian Centre for Education in Cambodia.

Mr. Yap Keng Ho

Since 1996 Mr. Yap Keng Ho is an activist on the internet. In 2004, he founded a movement, Constitutional Amendments Campaign for Singapore, political reform towards a true Republic of Singapore. He is currently engaged by his own company, Yap MultiMedia Film and Digital Video Industries. He was previously employed in Bay Area of California, Florida and in other Asian countries and ran a seed R&D company at the Singapore Science Park. Since 2005, he also took part in ARDA and WFDA activities and conducted the web based surveys such as the Asia Democracy Index. 
 
Mr. Michael Cheng Seow Wee

Mr. Cheng is an active Member of the Singapore Democratic Party. He recently attended the Stockholm Sweden Singapore Initiative for Democracy (SSID) from 16-24 of August in Stockholm, Sweden. In Singapore he has attended two (2) Non-Violence Workshops organized by SSID in May and July 2005. Within the SDP, he helps in production the SDP political podcast, a well-received campaign by the Singapore web community. He previously worked in a media production company in the web-design related areas.

Ms. Imtiaz is the Director of the Liberal Forum Pakistan, CALD Associate Member and a civil society organization working for promotion of liberal values in Pakistan. The position involves planning and execution of activities, seminars and workshops on national level. She is concurrently engaged as Executive Director of an NGO, the Peace Education and Development (PEAD). Previously she organized a series of workshop for the International Labour Organization on Human Rights and Media. She attended courses on various development issues from the Agha Khan University, International Academy for Leadership – Germany and the Network University of Amsterdam.

Concurrent to his government post, he is the Business Manager of the Kowloon Hospital of the Hospital Authority of Hong Kong. He graduated from the Australian National University with a 1st Class Honours degree in Political Science.

He was previously engaged as Product Development and Brand Manager of PT Link Broadband Multimedia TBK with successful projects on re-engineering ISP infrastructure and application system; Internet data center security system for BNI Indonesia (Indonesia’s largest bank).  Prior to that, he was IT and Internet Manager for ITech Networks and MIS Systems Programmer for PT Lippo Karawaci TBK. He received his Bachelor degree in Informatics Management from the Universitas Pelita Harapan, Tangerang in 1999.

Ms. Elicano is the Program Officer of the Secretariat of the Young Liberals and Democrats of Asia, based in Manila. For YLDA, she recently handled the project management of the YLDA Workshop on Political Campaigns in Yogyakarta, Indonesia and has represented YLDA in various local trainings and confabs on youth and liberalism in Manila. Prior to her current stint with YLDA, she was employed as Marketing Officer and Editorial Coordinator of ABS-CBN Publishing. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Humanities major in Integrated Marketing Communications from the University of Asia and the Pacific in June 2004.

Mr. Chaulagain is the Communications Coordinator of the Youth Initiative Nepal. Youth Initiative Nepal is a member organization of the Young Liberals and Democrats of Asia (YLDA). His responsibilities include the website coordination of the organization.  He was a volunteer at the Student Partnership Worldwide (SPW) of the National Planning Commission. He also worked as a Marketing Manager for Antu (P) Ltd, doing distribution for Bharat Petroleum Corporation. In the course of his volunteer work for Youth Initiative, he has attended various trainings on liberalism and youth concerns. He graduated from the Shanker Dev Campus Ramshapath with a bachelor degree in Business Studies in 2003 and is currently pursuing a Masters in Business Studies in the same institution.

Ms. Vilay is the Secretary General of the Khmer Nation Youth Movement (KNYM) of the Sam Rainsy Party. She also serves as the editor of the official website of the movement. KNYM is a member organization of the Young Liberals and Democrats of Asia (YLDA). Under the KNYM, she served as Deputy Secretary General, Vice President and Secretary. She is an active member of the Sam Rainsy Party and was previously engaged as member of the Party’s Russey Keo District Council from 1999-2000.  She has participated in various youth trainings on leadership, campaigns strategies and democracy. She finished her studies in Management from the National Institute of Management and is currently pursuing a Bachelor degree in English at the SITC International Institute. She also graduated from the ESL-Teacher Training Course at the New York City Institute in Phnom Penh.

Dr. Meinardus is the Resident Representative of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation in the Philippines. Before moving to Manila in early 2002, he served his organization in South Korea for nearly six years, where he also taught at Hanyang University.  A former journalist, Dr. Meinardus writes political commentaries for media in Asia and Europe. He received his journalistic training at Radio Deutsche Welle, where he worked in different departments. He left the German broadcasting corporation in 1992 after he served as head of the Greek language service. Dr. Meinardus received his doctorate in the field of international relations from Hamburg University

Mr. Rainer Heufers

Mr. Heufers studied Sinology at the East Asian Seminar of the Free University Berlin and from 1987 to 1988, Economics at Fudan University in Shanghai, China. From 1994 to 1995 he was assigned assistant lecturer at the Seminar of East Asian Studies of the Free University Berlin. He joined the German Foundation for International Development (DSE) in 1995 as Programme Officer in the Public Administration Promotion Center and later the Social and Economic Development Center. In 1999, Mr. Heufers joined the Friedrich Naumann Foundation’s Regional Office for East and Southeast Asia as Project Director. He takes responsibility for the programmes of the Foundation in Malaysia and for advising the Foundation on matters concerning the People’s Republic of China.

Since 1998 he has been a Regional Research and Communications Manager at the Friedrich Naumann Foundation's Regional Office based in Thailand. In September 1999 he published Self-Censorship: Singapore's Shame that lead to the evolution of his sole-proprietorship Think Centre (Singapore) <www.thinkcentre.org> into human rights NGO. He also co-founded Think Centre (Asia) <www.thinkcentreasia.org> in Bangkok in 2001 and stepped down as its chairman in 2002. For his use of the Internet for political communication and mobilizing people, he was identified separately at various times in 2001 as one of "Asia's 50 most powerful communicators" by Asiaweek, "An Asian Trailblazer" by Newsweek and an "Asian Making a Difference" by the Far Eastern Economic Review. His second book, Internet Politics: Surveillance & Intimidation in Singapore was released in 2002. Mr. Gomez is currently pursuing his PhD at the Monash Asia Institute in Australia. He completed his MA in Politics from the University of Essex, England in 1994 and his undergraduate studies from the National University of Singapore.

Dr. Busarin Dusadeeisariyawong has been a Programme Officer Malaysia at the Friedrich Naumann Foundation since April 2004. She obtained her PhD in International Relations from the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, UK in 1999. She completed her Master degree in International Politics at the University College of Wales at Aberystwyth, UK in 1993 and her first degree from Bangkok University. She has an extensive work experience in the management, export, printing, research, hotel administration, travel industry prior to her current post.
 
Mr. Roderick Chia

Mr. Roderick Chia is the Editorial and Research Assistant of the FNF Regional Office in Bangkok. A Communications Studies graduate from the Auckland University of Technology, New Zealand, major in Journalism, he edits and contributes articles to the FNF website. He does research and content work for various projects, publications and papers, and also assists in organizing FNF-related conferences, seminars and workshops.

Mr. Coronel is the Executive Director of the Council of Asian Liberals & Democrats. Mr. Coronel served as consultant of Philippine Senator Francis Pangilinan, consultant of Amnesty International Philippines, and Vice President of the liberal think tank, the National Institute for Policy Studies. He studied at the University of the Philippines and University of Hawaii where he was a scholar of the East West Center.    
 
Mr. Brian V. Gonzales (Workshop Secretariat)

Before becoming CALD Programme Officer, Mr. Gonzales was previously the Southeast Asia Policy Officer of WWF, the World Wide Fund for Nature. His past work engagements include technical assistance project management and human resources management at the Asian Development Bank and Ayala Corporation respectively. He studied at DLSU-College of Saint Benilde, De La Salle University-Manila and the Fribourg Summer School of the University of Fribourg in Switzerland.
