(March 12, 2008/ Jakarta, Indonesia) Last March 10, 2008, Dr.
Neric Acosta, CALD Secretary General and interim Executive
Director, met with officials from both the Partai Kebangkitan
Bangsa (PKB) or the National Awakening Party and the Partai
Demokrasi Indonesia Perjuangan
(PDIP) or the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle to discuss
their possible membership to CALD.

The mission aimed to increase CALD’s engagement with its
observer parties in Indonesia and to forge better relations and
cooperation with them. A roundtable series on Islam and
Democracy in Asia was proposed to the CALD Execom to be included
as part of its activities this year.
Highlights of the mission include the meeting of Dr. Acosta with
former President
Abdurrahman Wahid and daughter Yenny Wahid of PKB and a luncheon
meeting with Pak
Pramono Anung, secretary
general of PDIP. Dr. Acosta also met with Ms. Teruna Meraputi
and Ms. Camelia Puji Astuti, chairperson of Garda Bangsa (PKB
Youth Wing), and with Mr. Hanjaya Setiawan, head of the PDIP
International Relations. |
