European and Asian liberals to meet again
in Brussels

(April 8, 2008/ Brussels, Belgium) Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) and senior staff officials of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) in the European Parliament and Members of Parliament (MPs), party leaders and senior staff officials from member parties and observers of the Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats (CALD), and participants from Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe, the Pacific, Africa and the Caribbean (ALDEPAC) will convene for a meeting on April 15-17, 2008 in Brussels, Belgium to discuss Climate Change: Challenges and Liberal Responses for Asia and Europe; The Global Fight Against Human Trafficking and Child Prostitution; and Liberal and Democrat Responses to Human Dignity Challenges.

This gathering would be the fourth meeting of ALDE and CALD after the successful meeting in Manila, Philippines last June 2006. There have been previous meetings in Brussels (2004), Seoul (2002) and Brussels (2000) between European and Asian liberals. These meetings are aimed at discussing the challenges and opportunities for liberals in the two continents and are organized in cooperation with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation, the German foundation for liberal politics.

As in previous meetings, the venue will be held in the European Parliament. Courtesy and consultative meetings in the European Commission have also been scheduled.
