Press Release

The National Council of the Union of Burma would like to thank the Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats and the Liberal Party for this tremendous opportunity to meet with Liberal Party Members of the House of representatives presided by Rep. Henedina Abad and Rep. Jaime Lopez, Vice Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Relations to support the establishment of the Philippine Parliamentary Caucus on Burma. We also would like to thanks Florencio Abad, former Chair of the Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats for his time to meet and support our goals. Also to the government officials and colleagues who support this fro their end.

We are delighted to hear from members of the Liberal party leaders who support Burma’s democratization and setting free our jailed leaders Daw Aung Suu ky and other colleagues and encouraged our struggle to change the political system for the people of Burma. This is the time to tell the right thing from one of the ASEAN members. We would like to thanks both the House of Representatives and the Philippine Senate leaders who stand for democratization in Burma.

We are very proud of the decision of Senate Majority Leader Francis Pangilinan and Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Philippine Senate for their strong commitment to support Burma’s democracy movement and freedom of Daw Aung Suu Kyi. Both leaders will support the Senate resolution of Burma democracy movement, stopping the human right violations by the military regime and meaningful dialogue between the National League for Democracy and military regime namely the State Peace and Development Council (SPDC).

Our NCUB delegation viewed that the House of Representatives and leading Senators would like to share the Philippines’ democratic movement with Burma’s current democratic struggle from dictatorship. We feel proud that we are not alone in the region; we have strong support from the Philippines’ parliamentary leaders. We will take these hopes and promises to our leaders and people of Burma.

The NCUB delegation concluded that without the Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats and the Liberal Party, we are not able to deliver our freedom movement, lack of human dignity, our struggle for democracy. Without peaceful political settlement, our Ethnic nationalities as well as the rest of the Burmese people will not able to have a future, peace. Dignity, basic human rights and equality. We must have a democratic system that we have been fighting for. We do appreciate all of our colleagues who made possible this successful political trip that will provide our hop and democracy back in Burma. Thank you.
